Visiting this city for a period between the Christmas and the New year to stay in a friends place. i have been before in Örebro, but just for one day or less, this time its for six days in a row, allowing me to see the other side of the city with i never thought i cant do....

Traditions from the Egyptian oldies... (1)

When i was a kid, my mum used to take me and my brother to my grand ma... and like any grand ma, mine hold the responsibility of telling us stories about how Egypt was in her days..

My grand ma was so cool when she tells this story, she sits and tell us with her smooth voice all of this amazing memories that she lived, and all of this stories that happened whether in our families or others, tells us about the neighborhood and how it was back in the days when Egypt was still a charming queen.. when all the families weren't just families living in closed apartments, but more of one big family gathered by one village...

One of the stories was about one family that was resident next to my family, the daughter of this family was getting married... and as if every single mother felt it's her own daughter, they all started to prepare...

U will ask me what exactly??

EVERYTHING... starting from the food that will be put on the tables, to the pride herself: the hair, the dress and every single detail that the pride needs or the family this day and the other families can help out with...

It would be an amazing night, all the families gathered in the streets, tables furnished, colorful lights stretching from one building to the other along the streets.. the pride and the groom would be sitting in their chairs looking around being blessed with this big family...

My grand ma used to tell me that this nights would be the best night ever across the village, where u can feel the bonds and the harmony between all the families just by looking at their faces and hear their laughs..

Great nights, ever lasting memories...

Villages now are not the same... the laughs withered and this amazing gatherings r nothing but memories that is told by a grand ma to her grandsons and daughters..

Last time i went there and visited the village, i felt as if it was a haunted one, not like the old days... the streets r broken, the buildings r silently standing, and the only action in the street when the small kids play football.. and that's it...

the spirit simply is gone...

Even in Alexandria, although it's a city, but u find ppl no longer interested to know each other, in their own neighborhoods, they r exhausted in work, and family affairs... they no longer reach for each other... no longer wanna bond like how they family did in their days..

I kinda feel that perhaps one day when the whole country is back to it's golden ages and even exceed it, we would all have this lovely spirit again... but till then... i'll keep on writing about all this amazing traditions that we lack this days... documenting what once existed ...

Culture is the KEY

Last week, I attend a lecture by an american professor talking about the american laws and as well talking aboutterminology and how can a teacher and a student understand it.

When she was talking about her book, she mentioned something pretty interesting, to me at least, she was talking about culture and how it might affect the work of the firm u r working at... I asked her to explain to me further this point, and so she did..

She explained stating that although all cultures r unique, yet they r different when it comes to dealing with them...

there is a high context culture and a low context culture... a high context culture like Japan for example, everyone shares the same history, the same values and the same traditions... while USA on the other hand, it is a low context country, where there r thousands of different backgrounds as well as values and traditions..

so when dealing with a Japanese country for instance, they r not just signing a contract and that's it, they look more to build communications with that person, going out on dinners and drink Saki and discuss intellectual issues..

while in USA for example, they tend to be more straight to the point, they don't need to bond with the person in front... for them time is money... they just sign the contract and need no further communication with that person...

those small points might affect everything.... a marketing manager who was working with ford, went to Abu Dahbi in the 90's... he was so enthusiastic to start new company campaign... that he started calling different potential clients from 9 am.... this might seem ok for any normal day, but, one thing he didn't notice, he was right in the middle of Ramdan, which is a holy month for Muslims where they fast all day from dawn till sunset, where the companies opens late through this month... so u can imagine how the campaign failed...

Not only in business stuff like this happens, but in many other fields, simply coz we don't know the others and understand their traditions..

For Muslims, it's not such a good idea to go and visit someoneand as a gift u r carrying a bottle of wine.. which is something prohibited by religion...

In religion feasts (Eid el Adha for Muslims), the first day the whole family gather in one big house, so if someone is planning to visit this family, u probably won't find them...

So as u can see, Culture is a key point to everything around us... and by understanding it, a lot of misunderstanding might be eliminated.. just by talking and discussing and reading more about it..

Mary: I had this guy leave me a voice mail at work, so I called him at home, and then he emailed me to my Black Berry, and so I texted to his cell, and now you just have to go around checking all these different portals just to get rejected by seven different technologies.

this small dialogue really express what we r facing now... we r so tired to run around and get accounts on different websites that every one of them gives u a new advantage. for example:

Facebook: i love it, u stay connected to ur friends, see photos, check events in ur town, post videos, write notes... mainly ALIVE and ADDICTIVE.

My Space: i mainly joined My space community for nothing but to stay connected to my favorite hip hop bad "flying steps" in Germany, after that i found a lot of my friends and i meet new friends also i found out that Arabic singers have a my space account, personal one, which is nice...

Twitter: simple and easy.. u can be connected to a lot of networks and stars as well: Queen Rania, the white house, the UN, Oprah, mariah carey, kevin spicey... by one click u can get all the feedback about their updates... :)

Linked In: it's a professional network, where u can get recommendations and get job opportunities as well. i was introduced to Linkedin by my sis Naya ;) , i won't say that i was lost from the beginning and i'm still lost :P , but i found friends i meet from different conferences on it, and it was great to find them.

Flicker: it's mainly for professional photographers, u post ur pics and then u get comments and advices about ur pic, if u r not a pro, it's ok, u can post family and friends and stay connected, frankly, i found amazing pics, that i wanted to download to find them having a very high security program, very smart if u don't want to distribute, and very irritating if u liked this pic to download..

Bambuser: in order to follow YLVP course, and to keep Ahmed Esmat focused :P , i made an account on this website, which in the beginning really irritated me, since u mainly broadcast from ur mobile ( service is not THAT cheap), but i used my web cam, and i broadcast funny stuff... (a view from my street :P )

those communities r not the only thing that through it u can stay connected to ur friends and be updated, there r a lot others, but those r the main thing.

Technology is fun, technology is great, technology is the one thing that keeps me updated with my crazy brother, whether to remind him to buy me a cycle helmet :P , or to see his BOLD after he shaved like a prisoner :D

In the last few days as the world watched the events in the Middle East and as that there was various coverage for Arab and Israeli versions and Western versions which certainly close to the Israeli version.

Despite the horror of the events and involvement of all parties except that the coverage had a different views made me pose this to all people open discussion about what is going on "Which Middle East we are talking about? "....

Are we talking about the Arabic version of its public opinion that what is happening and the massacre that the world succumb and ignore in Gaza is supporting to Israel and on the other hand and breaking resistance movement and the Arabic Liberation movement? ....

Or we talk about the official Arabic version “Egypt”, which is saying that what is happening despite the horror consider to be discipline of Hamas, which refused to attend the dialogue in Cairo .......

And certainly if you are living abroad and observer of the European news which either ignoring completely as if the massacre of Mercury and not the earth or whether there would be coverage like "some terrorists fire rockets which fall on Ashkelon and the IDF is firing back” a little after they show a TV series accuse All Arabs and Muslims with terrorism and we can see this as on the third day of the war “massacre” on a TV channel TV they showed the Twenty-third series "NCIS" which in it the Israeli interrogation with a member of Abu Sayyaf who is smuggling weapons to Hamas and they show how the tears was in her eyes while she charging him of killing innocent people ... by the way the normal sequence series was the third season serial no. Seven!!!!

And of course the American and Israeli version of events and summarized in the "right of Israel to defend itself against terrorists" and Israel is not using excessive force but take into account the existence of civilians in the conflict zone!!!...

The problem is that many version of the conflict and, if we are looking for the peace and a lasting solution to the conflict is a Middle East so we have to put one copy of the events and that's clear, and that’s a reason that the Security Council failed to reach a decision despite the evolution of the events and always the Security Council are failing to resolve the dispute In the region due to different versions do not participate in the same foundation.....

I liked the comment of an American analyst on the West coverage of the events "When I see the news on television and I feel that the Palestinian tanks Sweeps Tel Aviv"

Two events today attracted me; the first was by Israeli Foreign Minister Dialogue on AlJazeera and after several hours the statement of Egyptian President Mubarak about the situation in Gaza.....

What is happening in Gaza is for the Arabs in general and Egyptians in particular was very normal as the world protested against the occupation of Iraq and the invasion of Lebanon in the late eighties as well as 2006 attacks, became controversial what are we doing.... Arabs became divided between the Gulf Cooperation and the Maghreb Union which simply means nothing, and the effective leaders nominal and attached to people's expectations are helpless and powerless, or who were originally to follow agendas from other countries....

Hamas: committed the biggest mistake in its history and possibly the last one, Israel demanded the world to extend the truce, but Hamas had another view is that it will shake entity of Israel, Hamas now paying the price for this challenge from its strength and the blood of innocent people and although I believe Hamas, known and expecting that, just Israel had took them by surprise, and the no. of ppl who were going to die in a year died in the day and managed to draw the attention of the world about what is happening in Gaza….

Israeli foreign minister: Please do not save the Egyptian regime by saying that they were not informed, every reader to know the peace agreement know that any military action on the Egyptian side and with depth 50 km obliges to inform the Israeli side and the same for the Israeli side but with the depth of 3-4 km and the bombing was Directly, and on the border which means 2-3 meters ...
As everyone knows, the knowledge of Egypt about bombing the Iraqi reactor Isis and that El Sadat tried to persuade Israel from doing this, and the same in invasion of Lebanon in the eighties ....

Israel: season surprise and intellectual and tactical development at the highest level possible and learning from the past. No one in the world expected that Israel on will violated the sacred Saturday and density in the bombing and movement even waiting before pushing the tanks and soldiers to avoid losses... I believe that this process a message to neighboring countries and Egypt especially after the exercises, "the Tenth of Ramadan 07", which raised concerns in Israel and also to Syria, which suspended peace negotiations after the Israeli bombardment ....

Iran: Leave the bidding and reckless talk and remember your war with Iraq and hundreds of thousands who were killed

Nasrallah: Stop talk about divine victory, which destroyed the Lebanese, yes you made a small victory but Israeli gains are more than all the gains created in your history.....

What:
The Sailing the Nile Campaign for the Millennium Development Goals, is a UN initiative. The Millennium Goals are among the top priority of the United Nations and were galvanized in 2000 where 189 Heads of Government (including Egypt) signed a declaration to end poverty by 2015. Since 2006, 18 UN Agencies, the Egyptian Government, civil society and the private sector joined efforts in this innovative campaign to raise awareness and trigger local action around the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

When:
The campaign will be launched on October 18th, and will continue until December 20th, 2008.

Why:
The Sailing the Nile campaign has two main objectives: to raise awareness of the Millenium Development Goals and to integrate the concept of volunteerism into MDG-related projects that are currently being implemented by development partners.

How:
The 2008 MDGs Campaign combines three different means of transport: feluccas, buses and train. The activities of the campaign will follow an itinerary across the country that will serve as the backbone of the project. All activities will be implemented along the stops of the itinerary that the feluccas, buses and train will follow between 18 October and the 20 December, 2008.

El Eid Gather Us...

Just few days and the holy month of Ramadan will end, Muslims all over the world will celebrate the festival which will last for 3 days called Eid Elfitr and its so important that you can find Egyptians busy in the last days of the month baking cookies and making Delicious food and sweets and buying new cloths for their children...

In the Eid, people start their day with going to pray in the early morning, after that they go back home have breakfast and get ready either waiting or going to meet family and usually in big families people gather to have lunch together and spend the day speaking and chatting….

Usually Muslims Donate money for poor people to make sure that those people will have the ability to celebrate the Eid…

Egypt during those days looks great as people go out in the gardens and streets spending their time with their children and families…

In the End I wish you all Happy Eid and Hope Peace for all over the world.

Muslims around the world are celebrating Ramadan, a month-long period of religious reflection and devotion.

Ramadan marks the month the Prophet Mohammed is believed to have had the holy book, the Koran, revealed to him by God.

The holy month is observed by a large proportion of the world's estimated 1 billion Muslims, and has been observed for centuries in roughly the same way.

It occurs during the ninth month in the lunar calendar, which is different from the internationally-recognised solar calendar.

Muslims cannot eat and drink at all in the daytime during this period, breaking their fast when the sun sets, by drinking kamr el din, and eating again before the sun rises.

They are expected to spend much of their day in prayer and reflection, during which they learn how life can be a mixture of body and soul - of spiritual faith and the reality of life.

It is regarded by many as a month-long exercise in practising how to be a pious, religious person throughout the rest of the year.

The number of worshippers making pilgrimages to two of Islam's holiest sites, Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia, increases during Ramadan - especially during the last 10 days.

But the holy month is also a social occasion, which has developed over time into a festival.

After sunset, families break their fasts by sharing festive meals of special Ramadan treats, such as Konafa, an Egyptian dessert made of shredded wheat and syrup, or Katayef, sweets stuffed with nuts, which are a popular dessert among Palestinians.

But most important are dates, which, according to Islamic teachings, were eaten by Prophet Mohammed at the end of each day of the fasting month. These are seen as a spiritual reminder of the reason behind the fasting and feasting.

Many Muslim countries change their hours of business during Ramadan, and this year in Egypt, the government has gone one step further and declared an additional day off every week to make the lives of workers easier.

The streets of the Egyptian capital Cairo are currently alight with special festive lanterns. These have been used to light up Ramadan nights there since the Fatimids - a North African Shiite Moslem dynasty, which ruled Egypt from 969 to 1171.

Ever feared u dreamed of something and then when ur dream comes true, u have like a second thoughts about it??

well that happened to me ," A LOT" , but this situation should be remarked.

I always dreamed to go to my college by bike, and to just ride on the corniache in peace and quiet, the sea by my side, and I even talked with my friends about it. Me, Abdallah El Wakil, and Rania Ghallab, and 2 other of my friends, and we all just loved this idea....

and since I heard the idea after that with a while from Peter, I couldn't just believe it,I even thought, well I know how will it ends, we will just gather and do nothing.

But totally opposite to my expectations, I found them actually agreeing on a day, and where we r going to rent the bikes and everything else...

I couldn't even believe it..we gathered, the first day was on 8\8\2008 :D, i won't forget it my whole life, since I actually was toasted from the sea the day before, and I was riding the bicycle with my hands hurting me so much...

But nothing , really NOTHING, can actually hurt me anymore since just riding by the sea, and watching the streets and the air blowing in ur face , just makes u hope this day never ends....

This day we went from Stanly bridge to the BA, the best trip in my whole life, of course I won't forget my embarrassing situation in the end, since (cold water+ my empty stomach = u can imagine the rest...)
:(( not pretty cool believe me....

I returned home, feeling so HIGH, that I kept smiling all the day long, even mom and dad thought that I got ran over by a car, and my bro fixed me somehow... but I will never forget the first day I ride by the sea...I even talked with dad and took my bicycle to fix it....

The second time... WOWOWOW was the SHOT and the GREATEST, from Stanly to the Fort of Qaitbay, and u can imagine the joy, I thought Niverte is actually trying to kill us, and with the whistle, NIVERTE u seriously looked like a policeman :D, but the weather was lovely, and the sea was amazing and just the whole idea made me feel like dreaming, I evened thought I'm dreaming, till I reached home and I saw the pics, then: "oh that's for real... :D"

Then, we were assured of this piece of information, Niverete will kill us ultimately, she sent us a msg of the next ride, 5 mins after that, I found everyone is calling me, WHAT????

And since we know that we can do it, we went, and with the help of the Egyptian team, they cleared the way for us, and it was extra cool :D

I can talk much, but can never describe the feeling just to ride and the sea by ur side and the Alexandria sleeping in the morning on the other side...

Dear Tech Support Team:
Last Month I upgraded from Girlfriend 5.0 to Wife 1.0.
I soon noticed that the new program began unexpected child-processes that took up a lot of space and valuable resources.
In addition, Wife 1.0 installed itself into all other programs and now monitors all other system activities.
Applications such as Bachelor Nights 10.3, Cricket 5.0, BeerWithBuddies 7.5, and Outings 3.6 no longer run, crashing the system whenever selected.
I can't Seem to keep Wife 1.0 in the background while attempting to run my favorite applications.
I'm thinking about going back to Girlfriend 5.0, but the 'uninstall' doesn't work on Wife 1.0. Please help!

Dear Troubled User:
This is a very common problem that people complain about.
Many people upgrade from Girlfriend 5.0 to Wife 1.0,thinking that it is just a Utilities and Entertainment program.
Wife 1.0 is an OPERATING SYSTEM and is designed by its Creator to run EVERYTHING!! !
It is also impossible to delete Wife 1.0 and to returnto Girlfriend 5.0.
It is impossible to uninstall, or purge the program files from the system once installed.
You cannot go back to Girlfriend 5.0 because Wife 1.0 is designed not to allow this.

I recommend that you keep Wife1.0 and work on improving the environment.
I suggest installing the background application "Yes Dear" to alleviate software augmentation.
The best course of action is to enter the command C:APOLOGIZE because ultimately you will have to give the APOLOGIZE command before the system will return to normal anyway.
Wife 1.0 is a great program, but it tends to be very high maintenance.
Wife 1.0 comes with several supportprograms, such as Clean 2.5, Sweep 3.0, Cook 1.5 and Do Laundry 4.2.
However, be very careful how you use these programs.
Improper use will cause the system to launch the program Nag Nag 9.5. Once this happens, the only way to improve the performance of Wife 1.0 is to purchase additional software. I recommend Sarees 2.1 and Jewellery 5.0

Dear all

Through our life we meet a lot of people

People who may hurt us and they are so many,

People who cheer us and they are so few,

And people who you feel after meeting them that your whole life has been changed and those you meet them once in your life.

so the time has take us and now I have to go but before I go, I want to share with you some of what I feel, I can’t say that being in Sweden didn’t add or change me but for sure it made me saw the other side of myself and helped me to discover new skills.

But the most important is living the experience and touch the community from inside, Sweden is a great country even if it seems in the beginning to live there but as you got to know the culture you will find your self loving the place.

Sometimes it’s hard to understand the Swedish especially for someone from a total different culture but still there is a lot to learn and understand from those people and for sure you may find common points which can help.

I really got a lot of help from Urban and Diesy who clear for me so many things that I can’t count as we were all working in a really multicultural place from many place Germany, Italy and France but still we worked together for the same target to make small difference in this world.

The environment I worked in it in Köping added for me a lot by working and living with friends from different countries specially Hakan, Sandra, Nicolas, Elke and for sure my room mate Dinnes and the basketball trainer Thomas bandh who really I enjoyed working with him plus Marie who really worked hard with me to learn the language.

And I will never forget our training in Lidingo where I meet the other volunteers Antino, Eva, Iva, Graham, Peter, Tina and many others it was a real fun in Stockholm going around with you people.

anyway during my stay I really added a lot of new names to my dictionary "my brain" like( Anna, Marie, Gustav, Tobias, Andres, Thomas, Malin, Eva, and many more) but for sure I will always remember few of them who may make a different in my life as I said in the beginning.

Anyway tomorrow I will have to turn this page and start a new one exactly at 3 pm where I will stop using "Hej Hej" and start using "El salamo 3aliko".

Going back to my little city see it around meet old friends and hopefully new ones too check the sea and tell him about my story in the north and how it was so cold but nice there.
